(brackets mine), and not what can be done on-site to welcome newcomers, though I can appreciate the spirit of this post, and it sounds like a reasonable response to both assist the newcomer, and encourage the use of mathjax. So while I would vote up the response if it were an answer to "How to better welcome new users", I don't believe it answers the question that was asked. | |

This is because when I first started, it took me a couple of days to work out that $ were needed, and the Mathjax debugging tools are very limited (nonexistent). | |
