This question already has an answer here:

At the bottom of the Ask a Question page, MSE asks:

"Know someone who can answer? Share a link to this question via email, Google+, Twitter, or Facebook."

Well, what about users on this site who've answered relevant questions before? If I type @ nothing appears to happen in the way of messaging them like when I respond to users' comments.

$\begingroup$ You can check such a person's recent activity in the profile/activity page. Then put a comment directly after a recent post. Ummm: not everyone will like this. $\endgroup$ – Will Jagy Sep 20 '15 at 3:44

$\begingroup$ Let's see, the idea of having some sort of ping option as part of the software comes up regularly and is always killed. $\endgroup$ – Will Jagy Sep 20 '15 at 3:45

  • $\begingroup$ @WillJagy Yeah, I figured people would get irritated with that, which is why I asked for a ping feature. BTW, that other Question in your comment is about private contact, which I'm not asking about. $\endgroup$ – Jerry Guern Sep 20 '15 at 3:52
  • $\begingroup$ Right. I think the problem there was that the OP had no specific person in mind, so my offer to be the middleman was useless. People take me up on it once or twice a year. $\endgroup$ – Will Jagy Sep 20 '15 at 3:54
