Why Stack Exchange is acting weird? Yesterday morning when I opened my account there were lot of notifications. It was something disturbing (-10 -10 -10…)

When I looked my name it was changed (I didn't change it myself), still the name is different.

My activity is not mine. There are some questions which I didn't ask. And big thing is my reputation suddenly fallen a little with no reason. I think it's not my account but I can see some of my activity in activity section but some are not mine.

Now where has my account gone? Did someone hack this site? And whose account is that in my activity?

$\begingroup$ Was your account name "Moderator"? If so it was likely changed by an actual moderator since this could be seen as pretending to be a moderator. I ask as I saw such an account recently with that same SE logo. I do not recall if it was this particular account though. $\endgroup$ – quid Sep 10 '16 at 1:31
  • $\begingroup$ @quid yes my name was Moderator where is my account you know? $\endgroup$ – JM97 Sep 10 '16 at 1:33
  • $\begingroup$ My name is JM97. Why I got some extra questions in my mathematics.se? Atlast why I am suspended. Who wrote this question? I didn't post any question. $\endgroup$ – JM97 Sep 10 '16 at 1:34
  • $\begingroup$ @quid why my name changed to only Jm97 , why lot questions came in my physics account? $\endgroup$ – JM97 Sep 10 '16 at 1:36

$\begingroup$ User names are not unique, but there is a unique numeric identifier for accounts on a SE site by SE site basis. This Question and both Comments were posted from the same Math.SE account. $\endgroup$ – hardmath Sep 10 '16 at 1:36
  • $\begingroup$ @hardmath nope . Surely SE is acting wired today. That fourth comment arguing for math extra questions is not mine. $\endgroup$ – JM97 Sep 10 '16 at 1:39

$\begingroup$ As I said, likely the account name was changed to avoid misconceptions. Moderators can change displaynames. This does not affect anything else. If there are more changes to your account it might be that two accounts were merged since they seemed to be controlled by the same individual. I cannot know if this happened or not. It will be best to wait for a moderators comment. But the change of the displayname is not suprising. $\endgroup$ – quid Sep 10 '16 at 1:41

$\begingroup$ If you think your account was compromised. Log out. To clear sessions. Then log back in. $\endgroup$ – quid Sep 10 '16 at 1:42
  • $\begingroup$ I think accounts are merge but still question is whose account was that? And also I want to regain my math.se reputation (it's now less from before) $\endgroup$ – JM97 Sep 10 '16 at 1:43

$\begingroup$ @JM97: It may not be "your" account, but it surely is the same account for both the Question and all the Comments by "JM97". If you hover your pointer/mouse over the user name, you will see the page for the user displayed as a URL, and this contains the numeric user ID as "key". $\endgroup$ – hardmath Sep 10 '16 at 1:47
  • $\begingroup$ @Gerry I the real JM97 didn't posted this question. Some other member ( I wonder ) somehow got my account and he is posted it. Also I got all his mathematics.se questions. Could anyone resolve this soon? $\endgroup$ – JM97 Sep 10 '16 at 6:01

$\begingroup$ Accounts were recently merged into this one. I cannot see too much information about it, and such things happen at the SE employee level, not mere site moderators. I have pinged a CM to see if there is anything else going on. $\endgroup$ – user642796 Sep 10 '16 at 6:45

$\begingroup$ I replaced your username with a generic one in response to several other users flagging the inappropriate "Moderator". If I put the wrong number in there I apologize. The rest of the oddities are a mystery to me. $\endgroup$ – Jyrki Lahtonen Sep 10 '16 at 7:49

$\begingroup$ Clearly, user20879, this matter must be brought to the attention of the International Tribunal on Crimes Against Humanity at The Hague. Alternatively, you could try being a little patient. $\endgroup$ – Gerry Myerson Sep 12 '16 at 23:08
