This question already has an answer here:

I'm considering leaving the site, having tried it out for a while. But I feel I shouldn't delete my slide rule question as it has proved so popular. Also a couple of my answers seem to have helped people, so I'm loath to remove them. Do the posts of former members remain, or are they deleted along with the account? Thanks.

$\begingroup$ You can also just... not log in again. $\endgroup$ – Asaf Karagila Dec 3 '18 at 0:23
  • $\begingroup$ @asaf That's true! But creating a new account takes m more effort than logging in and removes temptation, mybe. $\endgroup$ – timtfj Dec 3 '18 at 0:26
  • $\begingroup$ Does it? I don't know. But i think it should be about the same time. Especially if you change your login details and need to reset your password. $\endgroup$ – Asaf Karagila Dec 3 '18 at 0:27
  • $\begingroup$ @rafa most likely I'll end up not deleting. My other recent question (or possibly rant, but I tried to avoid that) explains the sort of thing that's bothering me. Basically I just want to enjoy the site and make a positive contribution, and I didn't feel that my attempt to do that was particularly well received. (I see that my question about it is already being downvoted.) $\endgroup$ – timtfj Dec 3 '18 at 0:32
  • $\begingroup$ @asaf You're probably right, actually.Signing up was very quick, now I come to think of it. $\endgroup$ – timtfj Dec 3 '18 at 0:34

  • $\begingroup$ I'm happy for this to be treated as a duplicate, but unsure of how to do that. Is the option in the "close 2" menu the correct one? (When I clicked the "duplicate" message the first time I was given the option to do that, but now I can't get at it.) $\endgroup$ – timtfj Dec 3 '18 at 19:00
  • $\begingroup$ I've now voted to close my own question as a duplicate. (And I now see that 2 was the number of votes.) $\endgroup$ – timtfj Dec 3 '18 at 19:28
