This question

received almost only negative feedback. Why ? And where should I ask such questions ?

  • $\begingroup$ Nice rule that an answered question cannot be deleted. In particular because there is no apparent reason for the downvote and the closevotes. $\endgroup$ – Peter Nov 24 at 18:41
  • $\begingroup$ Downvotes on meta reflect, typically, agreement or disagreement with the premise of the question, so I shouldn't be offended by that. And... well, you have 67k rep, shouldn't you have known that already? Closevotes are likely to be "off-topic" since this question is off-topic here. That will tidy the question away for you. $\endgroup$ – postmortes Nov 24 at 18:57

$\begingroup$ Why, Peter, are you asking here about something that hapened on mathoverflow? Mathoverflow has its own meta site. $\endgroup$ – Gerry Myerson Nov 24 at 21:19
  • $\begingroup$ @GerryMyerson I did not find the meta site on mathoverflow. In the mean time, I deleted the linked question, and this one should be deleted as well. $\endgroup$ – Peter Nov 25 at 7:54

Since you asked the original question on mathoverflow, you should ask about it on https://meta.mathoverflow.net While there is certainly overlap between users of here and there, it makes much more sense to ask a question on the correct meta site.

What you're likely to be told though, is that it was closed as being off-topic. You're asking about how to do something on a specific operating system, which is not the remit of any of the stackexchange maths sites. You could try on stackoverflow.com, or perhaps a linux-specific forum.
