Here's a question (not posted by me) that was rated positively:

Does $\cot^2 $ equal $ \cos^2/ \sin^2$? Link: Does $\cot^2 $ equal $ \cos^2/ \sin^2$?

Here's a question (posted by me) that was rated negatively:

Is there a system of axioms for the rational numbers and an associated incompleteness theorem?

Link: Is there a system of axioms for the rational numbers and an associated incompleteness theorem?

On the assumption that the rating of a question doesn't depend upon who posts it, but depends only upon the quality of the question itself, what conclusion should be drawn from how the above two questions were received? One was rated positively. The other was rated negatively and closed.

$\begingroup$ Have you taken the Math.SE Tour? A lot of the function of Math.SE centers on helping people to learn mathematics at all levels. If you have a math problem that interests or challenges you, asking for help here may help others with similar interests. At the same time the Community votes and curates (edits) content to collect excellent material for those who come here, searching for help with mathematical topics. Whenever you do post an exercise from a book, be sure to cite the source and share your thoughts on how to approach it. $\endgroup$ – hardmath Jan 16 at 15:33

$\begingroup$ "On the assumption that the rating of a question ... depends only upon the quality of the question itself" That's a pretty big (and false) assumption - also, what exactly do you want as an answer to this question? Do you want advice on how to improve your linked question? Do you really want to know if you should copy trigonometry questions? Or do you want to know what conclusions can be drawn from the rating of two questions? (Even though this is probably "not much") $\endgroup$ – Milo Brandt Jan 16 at 15:34
