G Tony Jacobs
Hello, I've been a math student ever since starting school, a math teacher ever since I realized I could help someone, and a lover of mathematics ever since I realized lots of things can be counted.
I am on the Mathematics faculty at a community college in Texas, USA. I do my best to balance my time between my teaching work, my family, and my hobbies, which include number theory, genealogy, being a backyard naturalist, making math art, and discovering new music.
My doctoral research was in algebraic number theory; my dissertation was "Reduced Ideals and Periodic Sequences in Pure Cubic Fields". That work is gradually being developed via correspondence and chipping away at it when I have time. I don't mind admitting that I also maintain a file on the Collatz problem, with my work now spanning two-and-a-half decades.
